PNAA NORTH CENTRAL REGIONAL CONFERENCE, April 25-27, 2014

PNA Greater Kansas hosted the 14th Philippine Nurses Association of America, Inc. North Central Regional Conference at The Westin Crown Center, Kansas city, Missouri on April 25- 27, 2014. This year’s theme was “ Nursing Excellence Through Strategic Empowerment, Synergistic Collaboration and Social Action “. Gem Cubos and Rose Parolanan represented PNA WI. On the night of April 24, 2014, was an early bird and welcome night at the Garden Suite of the hotel.

The morning of April 25 was the Leadership Institute. Among the speakers’ were Marlon Saria who talked about “ Race for Relevance- Energizing and Positioning Association for Better Performance and Remylin Bruder dealt on “ Servant Leader”. Pamela Jackson presented “ Nursing Your Way to the Top”.

In the evening, the Networking night was a time to let loose and enjoy everyone’s company. The theme was Zumba and the host chapter totally delivered a sweaty, energetic, pumped up Zumba atmosphere. There were several awards and among them Gem Cubos of PNA WI won best Zumba wear. Imelda Cuevo of PNA Illinois won best individual routine. The NCR chapters leadership awardees were presented. Rose Parolanan is the 2014 Leadeship Awardee for PNA Wisconsin.

On Saturday morning, April 26 was the Education Day. PNAA president, Ms. Victoria  Navarro presented her keynote address and facilitated a panel discussion on “ Ethical Recruitment of Foreign Educated Nurses: implications of the Immigration Reform, Retrogression Act”. Ms Emma Cuenca, PNAA Education Chair had a line up of topics like “ Acute Coronary Syndrome in Women: The Silent Killer”, “ Hepatitis C: A Generational Epidemic “ and the effects of “ Atrial Fibrillation and Yoga “. The afternoon resumed with topics like “ Dealing with Difficult Patients/People”, “ Is Your Nursing Document Defensible? “ and “ Blood Transfusion Utilization and Administration: Novel Advances”.

The PNA GKC put on a great show at the gala night themed “ Guys and Dolls: an evening on Broadway ” . The host presented an entertainment broadway revue. The Seasons of Love from Rent, Dreamgirls by Dreamgirls, Luck be a Lady from  Guys and Dolls, Defying Gravity from Wicked, waltz from Cinderella, a cell block Tango from Chicago and for the finale, the ensemble did the song and dance number from Mamma Mia. The induction of PNAGKC 2014-2016 Officers led by incoming president, Jessamine Endaya by Victoria  Navarro, PNAA president highlighted the beautiful affair.

Sunday, April 27 farewell events kicked off with a Sunday mass at Our Lady of Sorrows church followed by a farewell brunch hosted by Dr. Fred and Delia Lloreta. Next year, PNA Illinois will host the NCR.
